Rory on QVC

On November 1st, '99, we left for West Chester, PA, home of QVC, the world's largest shopping channel. If you wonder whether I was taking the QVC tour - well, not quite, I was performing live to a potential audience of 70 million viewers. This amazing event began as a tiny figment of my imagination. It happened that on a particular occasion I was channel surfing and came across QVC, where I spotted a most entertaining and gracious man by the name of Steve Bryant. As I watched, I was amazed to see him pull out a guitar and start playing in a bluesy, funky style. This immediately rocked my world, and I thought, "I have to call this guy up and say, Hi, you don't know me but I also play guitar.." Of course I never made the call, but not long after that I was standing at the product table after a gig and there, miraculously, on line for a CD and an autograph, was Steve Bryant. I pointed at him and blurted out, "Hey, you're the QVC guy! I'd like to be on your show!" and the rest is history. As you can see, I am thrilled, but the credit really goes to Steve Bryant and to QVC for being unbelievably hip and on the cutting edge. I think it's all very cool! However, before you call up QVC to see if you can get on the air, simply note that it is a long, complex process which must go through a lot of departments, procedures and processes, including "quality control". I think I am a lucky little girl all 'round. |
