Rory's Fall

To all concerned,

I write to tell everyone how horrified and devastated I am that this has happened. Just two and 1/2 days ago, on August 18th, I was walking across a large deck at a gathering, when a step-down occurred underfoot, which I missed entirely, so I just kept walking, and suddenly found myself flying forward at high speed. I was aware of the shock force of the landing, slamming my knee and my hands, and I could immediately tell this was a bad one (photos attached). People around me lifted me up, and I found I had a huge bruise on my knee that looked like a raised balloon of blue and purple. My hands were also bruised, with broken veins around my wrists and palms. I said “take me to an emergency room” because I knew it was a hard hit, I knew I was injured. Many X-rays later I was told a bone in my wrist was “fractured” but from the looks of the X-ray, showing the bone separated from the neighboring bone by about 1/4 inch gap, I am calling it a break. And it hurts like crazy, along with my knee, and other noticeable pains around my body. As a follow-up, Rob took me to a wrist specialist yesterday who took more X-rays, wrapped it in a super tight bandage, and my knee as well, and said the wrist would take at least 6 weeks. So I am devastated, especially to miss the much anticipated tour with Sue, and am good for nothing but bed rest, while feeling distraught, in continued pain, and now much disappointment and more devastation as I realize what has happened. I believe this is something like getting into a car accident (thankfully non-lethal), where your whole body is thrown around, pulled and stretched, and much more than just the hands and knee were involved. So this is the wretched situation, and I am so sorry first to Sue, her management and agency, my agent, and to the venues and fans who are learning this on such short notice!! I’m so sorry!!! I have an appointment with a knee specialist on August 24th, and again with the wrist specialist for a custom cast to be applied. Bummer isn’t enough to express. After things are healed, I expect to be back up and running, will revisit any cancelled show if they’ll have me, and generally get back to normal.
